Mitsubishi WD73C9 reviews from actual owners

(1) Actually purchased this set from [...] on a promo including the matching 73" stand from Mitsubishi. I'm honestly surprised Costco sells any DLP sets considering how dark their picture setup was on the sales floor. I bought it 2 months ago based on the confidence taken from prior buyers experience, my own experience w/ a 2004 Samsung 61" DLP, and lastly, the review of a similar model 65" Mitsubishi in the Sept 2009 issue of Home Theater Mag. When I got it setup and began trying to adjust the picture settings to my liking, I couldn't seem to find the right combination to suit me. Fortunately, Home Theater Mag's article gave the precise user settings they employed during their testing. I tried them and, voila, excellent picture. I actually feel the picture exceeds my prior Samsung's quality, and I always raved about it. If you are happy with a 50" or smaller picture, consider all formats. But if you are drawn to a true movie experience combining picture excellence with low cost, look no further. These new Mitsubishi DLP units really perform. The web site below will show you the settings HT Mag used for their testing: http://hometheatermag.com/rearprojectiontvs/mitsubishi_wd-73837_dlp_rear-projection_hdtv/index5.html

(2) I was so happy with this purchase that it brought tears to my eyes when I was watching Blue Ray Planet Earth with this TV. The only TV better than this would be the 82 inch version. This TV was a Christmas gift for my parents and they both were blown away. I don't see a difference between my 73 inch and my Samsung plasma in terms of clarity and color contrasts. I would highly recommend this purchase for anyone looking for a home entertainment system.

UPDATE: 12/11/2009

I added Terk HDtv Antenna Amplified by Terk to my 73 WD73C9 and believe me all the local channels ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS etc. were Blue Ray quality. I could not believe I'm watching these channels at this quality for free. The ONLY regret I made about this purchase was not buying it sooner.

(3) Awesome screen size, provides movie theater experience in my living room. I can't rave about this purchase enough, everything about this TV is a pro, except for the clunky remote. I was going for a big plasma, until I came across this DLP, I bought it with stand and it is just jaw dropping. Don't dismiss this TV just because you can't hang it on the wall. 73" screen weighs about 93 lbs and easily handled by two adults. Took longer to take it out of the packaging than to set it up. We were watching HDTV in about 15 minutes.

(4) First off, I'd like to say that my entire experience with Amazon has been a pleasurable one. From finding the item, to getting information about the item, to buying the item, to having it shipped to my home. It was a seamless transaction. Now, about the product itself. I had never seen a television screen this enormous in a home until the Mitsubishi WD-73C9 arrived. For the screen to be so BIG, it actually has a great picture. Unbelievable actually. In comparison to my friends Insignia - she recently purchased a 47" LCD (and by the way, Insignia has the best manufacturer's warranty I have ever seen - 2 years) - standard definition is actually better on her television. But High Definition ... Can't really tell a difference. I'm a gamer, and the PS3 just wows me on the WD-73C9. I mean, I can see EVERYTHING. No one can go unnoticed now in Call of Duty. LOL! The picture on the WD-73C9 is excellent, but sound is a different story. My friend's Insignia has the best sound I've ever heard on a "newer generation" television. The sound on my WD-73C9 sounds a tad bit "boxy", thin, and just plain far-from-natural. I guess I'm just spoiled from the previous 46" rear-projection Samsung I had (which makes since because more speaker/sound circuitry could fit into the pedestal of the Samsung than what can fit into the fairly thin cabinet of the WD-73C9). Anyways, fortunately, I have a surround sound system hooked up to the WD-73C9. So, sound is no longer an issue for me. All in all, this television provides the best bang for the buck. I don't know if anyone can find a manufacturer making television of this size, at such a relatively low cost (at least not at the time of this writing). I would have opted for the 82", but I couldn't justify paying about an extra 2K just for a few more inches. Besides the sound, and how standard definition looks, I'm satisfied with the WD-73C9.
